Adult & Senior Education

Jewish education in the past was primarily something that only Jewish males were afforded.  I have heard countless stories from women over the age of 70 who were never Bat Mitzvah; many of these women listened to their brothers learning their Torah portions so often that the girls knew the portions better than their brothers.  I wholeheartedly believe that no one is too old to learn to read Hebrew, or to leyn (chant) from the Sefer Torah.  I don’t mean to imply that learning Hebrew or Trope is easy – it’s not.  But everyone can learn, no matter how old a person is.  My father taught me: “when one stops learning, they stop living.”

In addition to Adult Prayerbook Hebrew classes and how to leyn the Torah, I also offer a class in Judaism 101, a class modeled after the Introduction to Judaism class offered by the Reform and Conservative Movements.
